On January 30th 2019 President Muhammadu Buhari signed into law the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2019.

Now Nigeria’s new Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, the commission that is supposed to discontinue the role of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued its first advisory guidance on mergers, acquisitions and other business combinations but now in conjunction with SEC.

This much awaited guidance from FCCPA and SEC is a first step towards providing clarity regarding the new merger control process in Nigeria.
